About the Asthma & COPD Center

DCAM

The University of Chicago Asthma & COPD Center is dedicated to the promotion of excellence in the care of asthma & COPD, including research and education, both within the institution and in the larger community.

In recognition of the complexity of the problems that asthma and COPD present, and of the valuable contributions to be made by a wide range of professionals, the Asthma and COPD Center is a multidisciplinary enterprise. Asthma and COPD Center partners include specialist, primary care and emergency physicians, basic scientists, nurses, respiratory therapists, social workers, and experts in the fields of education, environmental studies, and health studies.

Activities within the Asthma and COPD Center are as diverse as its personnel. Clinical care for people with asthma and COPD is provided in a variety of contexts: in adult and pediatric pulmonary clinics, in ear-nose-throat clinics, pediatric and adult primary care clinics, in obstetrics, in the emergency department, on inpatient wards, and in the Pulmonary Function Laboratory which offers state-of-the-art asthma and COPD testing. Research ranges from bench science to clinical studies to epidemiological and health care utilization analysis. Outreach to the community takes the form of educational events open to the public, programs in the Chicago Public Schools, participation in health fairs, and cooperation with the Chicago Asthma Consortium and other community groups. The Asthma and COPD Center supports the education of physicians in the latest principles of asthma and COPD care through programs for our own University of Chicago medical students and residents, as well as through continuing education offerings for physicians throughout the Chicagoland area. Finally, the Asthma and COPD Center offers this website to act as a multi-purpose resource for the wider community of professionals and lay people. We hope you find it useful.
