Smoking Cessation Program

The University of Chicago Medical Center’s Tobacco Cessation Program offers tobacco cessation services on a one-to-one basis.  Treatment is brief but effective.  Because quit rates are highest when medications are combined with behavioral interventions, we offer patients a comprehensive strategy that includes both FDA-approved tobacco cessation medications and counseling.  Physicians expert in prescribing tobacco cessation medications are available for consultation.

The Tobacco Cessation Program is designed to help patients quit within the first two to three sessions.  Nicotine addiction assessment is part of the routine assessment.  Patients involved in the Tobacco Cessation Program receive exhaled carbon monoxide monitoring on a regular basis.  We also help patients remain free of tobacco use after they quit.
